The seriously impressive Shabir Ahmad Malik, 54, who’s a papier-mâché artist is a diehard fan of former Indian skipper Virat Kohli. However, Malik, who enjoys the way Kohli bats, had done something incredible by manually drawing a portrait of the cricketing star including his wife Anushka Sharma.

Always keen to do something different, Malik made a 3D portrait of Kholi to create a buzz after switching to abstract paintings and 3D portraits. Malik, who had more than four-decade experience had spent quality time making this portrait.

“It would be a treasure trove of memories. It was the commercial on TV which pushed me to draw an intricate design,” Malik told Cricnode.

Malik, who had lost his art creations and other valuable things in the fire incident, didn’t bog down and kept on working tirelessly to carve out a niche.

The Kashmir papier-mâché frame revealed a 3D portrait of Virat Kohli with a blend of Kashmir Papier Mache and Iranian art including a flower to make it something remarkable.

Interestingly, it took nearly six months for Malik to complete the special portrait which has subsequently given him immense satisfaction.

“Virat Kohli is an ace player. I like his game. Him being a global icon, I want to promote Kashmir’s art by making his portrait. It wasn’t easy to make this one — I had to be patient by drawing it [faces] four times,” he further added.

Meanwhile, Malik is keen to see how Virat Kohli is going to react to his work.

“I am eagerly waiting for his response. If he is keen to keep this, I will hand it over to him,” Malik stated.

With this art form taking a hit in the pandemic, Malik believes a handful of artisans had a massive role to play in keeping this art alive.
