Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur responded to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja’s statement regarding possible withdrawal from World Cup 2023 in India.
In reply to the statement of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary and Asian Cricket Council (ACC)’s president Jay Shah, Ramiz said if India doesn’t come to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023, then they will not go there for World Cup 2023.
“Who will watch World Cup in India without Pakistan?” stated Raja. “We are very clear, if they don’t come to play Asia Cup here, we won’t go there for World Cup,” the PCB chief added.
The sports minister reacted to this statement and said no country can ignore India. “No country can ignore India. India is powerful in sports world, wait for the right time,” Thakur was quoted saying to Indian media.
In October this year, BCCI high-up Shah claimed that India would not go to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023.
PCB didn’t make any official confirmation as the statement was given in a private capacity. However, the cricket board assured to take up the matter once the official announcement is made by the ACC.
