Former Test cricketer Zulqarnain Haider suffered belly infection and underwent a surgery after which his health and financial conditions both deteriorated.
Zulqarnain told Geo News that he was playing a league in Oman where stale food caused severe infection in his belly.
“I was busy playing a league in Oman. Meanwhile, I ate stale food somewhere and it caused serious infection in my belly. Due to expensive treatment abroad, I preferred coming to Pakistan and get my surgery done,” Zulqarnain shared with this correspondent.
“After surgery, now I am feeling weak and can’t even walk properly. A team from PCB has visited me in the hospital and I hope the board will clear my bills,” he said.
Meanwhile, Zulqarnain’s daughter wants PCB to provide a cricket-related job to his father and family survival. “My father has played cricket all his life and served Pakistan. PCB should hire him for a cricket related job so that he remains with us,” she said.
It must be noted here that Zulqarnain’s cricket career became controversial after he left the national team overnight during Dubai tour in 2010. He then returned to domestic cricket but failed to make his way to national team again.
