West Indies veteran Brian Lara has been appointed as the head coach for IPL 2023 after Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) part ways with Aussie Tom Moody.
“Both Moody and Sunrisers decided to not extend his contract,” a report maintained.
It becomes pertinent to mention that, Lara has been batting coach and strategic advisor for the SRH in IPL 2022. Meanwhile, SRH has confirmed Lara is the new chief coach.
Moody had been with Hyderabad from 2013 until 2019. However, in 2020 Moody was replaced by Trevor Bayliss as SRH chief coach in 2020.
Moreover, in 2020 Moody returned as Director of cricket before being elevated to head coach in 2022. During Moody’s stint, the team reached the playoffs five times and subsequently lifted the coveted IPL title in 2016.
In the 15th edition, SRH managed to bag six wins and had to face eight defeats to sit eighth on the team table.
Meanwhile, Moody has been recently named as the Director of Cricket for Desert Vipers — one of the six franchises in the UAE’s ILT20 league.
The ILT20 will commence on January 2023 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
“The cricketing legend Brian Lara will be our head coach for the upcoming IPL seasons,” SRH revealed.
