Bangladesh have named a stand-in captain in place of Tamim Iqbal for the ODI series against India.
Litton Das will captain Bangladesh in the three-match ODI series against India that is set to commence on Sunday, 4 December. Regular skipper Tamim Iqbal was recently ruled out of the series due to a Grade 1 strain on his right groin and also remains doubtful for the Test series thereafter.
This will be the first time Litton will lead Bangladesh in the 50-over format but has once previously captained his country in T20Is, in April 2021.
“Litton is one of the more experienced players in the side and has demonstrated leadership qualities,” said Jalal Yunus, BCB’s chairman of Cricket Operations. “He has a sharp cricketing mind and reads the game well.
“It is most unfortunate to lose Tamim to injury for this very important series, especially because under his captaincy the team has played some outstanding cricket in the last couple of years and he has been our most prolific batsman in this format.”
Litton has happy memories of facing India recently, albeit in a different format. The 28-year-old played an innings of a lifetime during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, scoring a fiery 27-ball 60 that almost took the game away from India.
Though Bangladesh ended up on the losing side, Litton received plaudits from the cricket fraternity for his entertaining innings.
The ODI series kicks off on 4 December in Dhaka. The same venue will host the second ODI on 7 December before the action moves to Chattogram for the final match on 10 December.
The Test series, which will be a part of the ICC World Test Championship, starts on 14 December.
