Finch announced his retirement from T20I cricket at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Tuesday, following his decision to retire from ODI cricket towards the end of last year.

The 36-year-old calls time on an outstanding international career with a total of 3,120 runs from 103 T20I matches and still holds the record for the highest individual score (172) in a men’s or women’s T20I innings for his superb knock against Zimbabwe in 2018.

Plenty of former international stars, respected commentators and Australian teammates showed their appreciation to Finch, while ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice also paid tribute to the dynamic right-hander.

“Aaron Finch has had an exceptional international career. Widely recognised for his power at the top of the Australian order, he led his team in 76 T20I matches a record-breaking feat including lifting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2021,” Allardice said.

“His remarkable innings scoring the highest T20I innings in men’s or women’s cricket against Zimbabwe will form a key part of his legacy.

“On behalf of the ICC, I congratulate him for an outstanding cricket career and wish him all the best for the future.”
